What's the secret behind Mc Donald's success, the first restaurant, story of Mc Donald.

  1. Mc Donald's first restaurant.
Hello and welcome to history pod on the 15th of May 1940 Richard Morris McDonald, opened the first McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino, California. McDonald brothers had successfully run the air drew hotdog stand in Arcadia, california.

for three years before they began their first McDonald's barbecue restaurant in San Bernardino. The restaurant had 25 items on the menu, and was typical of restaurants of its time, where customers arrived by car and was served by waiting staff, known as car hops in 1948, the brothers streamlined their entire restaurant experience when they temporarily closed the restaurant for remodeling. It reopened in October, with a new design, where customers ordered food directly at the counter.

Brothers, also reduced the number of items on the menu, and introduced their speedy service system that adopted an assembly line approach to simplifying food preparation. Many years these design innovations have first been introduced by the White Castle hamburger chain in the 1920s success of the McDonald's brothers restaurant saw them seek opportunities to expand their business.

In 1953, they began to offer franchise opportunities. Firstly, if the serving system, then the entire brand, including the name and the architectural design. The aggressive expansion of the McDonald's brand was overseen by Ray Kroc, originally a provider of milkshake machines, who persuaded the McDonald's brothers to franchise the restaurants throughout the country. The brothers agreed, and received nought point 5% of gross sales in franchised restaurants. Kroc later completely bought the brothers out in 1961, paying them $2.7 million for the business, and then went on to create the global chain, we know today.

2. Story of McDonald's family from manchester to california.

In the late 1930s, the McDonald family moved from Manchester New Hampshire to Hollywood, California, where brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald began working as handyman and motion picture studios. One of the first items sold hamburgers were later added to the menu at a cost of 10 cents with all you can drink orange juice at five cents. The restaurant was renamed McDonald's barbecue and had 25 menu items, mostly barbecue in 1947. After the McDonald brothers realized that most of their profits came from selling hamburgers, they closed down their car hop driving to establish a streamlined system with a simple menu which consisted of only hamburgers, cheeseburgers, potato chips, coffee and soft drinks and apple pie. After the first year, potato chips and pie were swapped out for French fries and milkshakes for their car hops were eliminated for making the new restaurant a self service.

operation Richard and Maurice to great care in setting up their kitchen like an assembly line to ensure maximum efficiency. The restaurants name was changed again, this time, simply to McDonald's in 1948. The brothers decided they needed an entirely new building in order to achieve two goals for efficiency improvements and a more eye catching appearance.

They collected recommendations for an architect and we've reviewed at least four finally choosing the Stanley Clarke invest in architect practicing in nearby Fontana. The new restaurants design achieved a high level of noticeability thanks to cleaning services of red and white ceramic tile, and to 25 foot yellow sheet metal arches dreamed in neon called Golden Arches design. Further marketing techniques were implemented to change McDonald's through a sit down restaurant to a fast food chain. They use such things as turning off the heating to prevent people wanting to stay so fixed and angle seating so the customer was sitting over there, promoting them as an investor spreading the seeds further apart, so being less of a sociable place to dine in and giving their customers branded cone shaped cups, forcing them to hold their drink whilst eating, which was a leading process.

In late 1953. With only rendering of maisons design enhance the brothers began seeking franchisees. Their first franchisee was Neil Fox, a distributor for general Petroleum Corporation boxes standard. The first with maisons Golden Arches design opened in May 1953 at Central Avenue and Indian School road in Phoenix, Arizona. Their second franchisee was the team of Fox, his brother in law who opened their standard in August 1953 in Downey, California, but Downie Stan has the distinction of being the oldest surviving McDonald's restaurant. But Downey Stan was never required to comply with the McDonald's Corporation remodeling and updating requests over the years because it was franchised not by the McDonald's Corporation, but by the McDonald brothers themselves to Williams in Atlanta, Ray Kroc joined the chain in 1954 and built it into an eventually global franchise, making it the most successful fast food Corporation in the world. In 1954, Ray Kroc, a seller of Prince castle brand multi mixer milkshake machines, learned that the McDonald brothers were using eight of his machines in our San bernandino restaurant. His curiosity was being me went to take a look at the restaurants and he was joined by a good friend Charles Lewis, who had suggested the Kroc several improvements to McDonald's burger recipe. believing the McDonald's formula was the ticket to success and progress suggested they franchise their restaurants throughout the country.

The brothers were skeptical, however, was self service approach can succeed in colder rainy climates. Furthermore, they're thriving business in San Bernardino and franchises already operating will make them reluctant to risk a national venture, Kronk offered to take the major responsibility for setting up the new franchises elsewhere. He returned to us on Alzheimer's Chicago with REITs to set up McDonald's restaurants throughout the country, except in a handful of territories in California and Arizona.
